Bengaluru’s Rescript is at the forefront of transforming discarded paper from schools and offices into eco-friendly stationery. The founders, Naren Raj and Ashutosh Ananth, have been repurposing recycled copier paper to create a range of sustainable products including notebooks, journals, planners, pens, and pencils.
Initially starting with plantable stationery items in 2019, the duo pivoted towards regular stationery products after realizing the need for sustainable everyday items. This shift led them to focus on copier paper, which eventually became the cornerstone of Rescript’s offerings when the brand officially launched in 2021.
The process of creating these eco-friendly stationery items involves collecting pre-consumer and post-consumer paper waste, which is then pulped, flattened, pressed, and heat-dried to form paper reels. These reels are further processed into various stationery products like copier paper, notebooks, and journals.
One of the key innovations introduced by Rescript is a proprietary formulation that carefully controls the ratio of recycled fiber to water during production. This ensures that the paper maintains a smooth texture and is compatible with modern printers, despite not being bright white due to the absence of bleaching agents.
Overcoming initial market challenges, Rescript now supplies its sustainable paper and stationery products to renowned corporates like LIC Housing Finance, ICICI Prudential, JP Morgan Chase, and Swiggy. The brand is also open to collaborating with educational institutions and individuals interested in recycling their waste paper.
Rescript’s notebooks have found their way into institutions like Lodha International School in Mumbai, Tenbroeck Academy in Bengaluru, and Meridian in Hyderabad, showcasing the growing acceptance of sustainable stationery in educational settings. By repurposing old paper into functional products, Rescript is contributing to both environmental conservation and the promotion of sustainable practices in the stationery industry.
