Yarn’n, an Indigenous-owned Australian company, has introduced a novel initiative by launching a line of toilet paper crafted entirely from recycled materials, sourced exclusively from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) approved forests. The company’s commitment to environmentally conscious manufacturing is evident in their sustainable practices, which include using significantly less water and energy compared to traditional methods, thereby reducing their carbon footprint.
By obtaining the FSC Promotional Licence Holder status in 2023, Yarn’n has further solidified its dedication to promoting biodiversity and combating climate change through responsible sourcing strategies. Lane Stockton, the CEO and founder of Yarn’n, emphasized the crucial role forests play in our ecosystem and the importance of protecting and nurturing them for the benefit of all.
In an effort to celebrate and preserve First Nations cultures, the newly launched toilet paper features artwork inspired by Indigenous traditions, showcasing totems, artist profiles, and dreamtime stories. This not only promotes Indigenous languages and customs but also contributes to the recognition and appreciation of Australia’s rich cultural heritage.
Yarn’n has also taken a philanthropic stance by partnering with Yalari, an organization that focuses on providing educational and leadership opportunities for Indigenous youth. A commendable move, Yarn’n has pledged to allocate 50% of its profits to support First Nations education, thereby investing in the future of Indigenous communities and fostering positive change.
Melanie Robertson, CEO of FSC Australia and New Zealand, commended Yarn’n for its holistic approach, recognizing the company’s significant contribution to maintaining healthy forests that are essential for both communities and biodiversity worldwide. This July, Yarn’n is set to unveil new artwork by Bayley Mifsud, a descendant of the Peek and Kirrae Whurrong clans of the Mar Nation in Warrnambool, South West Victoria. The artwork, titled “Kapa Ngoonang – Sunset,” reflects Mifsud’s deep connection to her homeland and community, adding a personal touch to the recycled toilet paper range.
