Visy Industries has unveiled Australia’s most advanced box-making facility in Brisbane, marking a significant milestone in the country’s packaging industry. The factory is set to produce over 350 million cardboard boxes annually, utilizing 100% recycled fiber.
The inauguration of the plant was attended by Queensland Treasurer Cameron Dick, Australian Federal Minister for Industry and Science Ed Husic, and Anthony Pratt, Executive Chair of Visy Industries. This state-of-the-art facility represents Visy’s commitment to investing $2 billion over the next decade, with a substantial portion allocated to Queensland.
Anthony Pratt, during the opening ceremony, highlighted the plant’s cutting-edge technology, including a modern 2.8m wide corrugator, making it the most advanced facility in the southern hemisphere. The company’s recent investments, such as the $1 billion recycled paper mill in Kentucky and the upgraded Coolaroo plant in Melbourne, demonstrate Visy’s dedication to sustainability and innovation.
By recycling mixed paper and cardboard at its Gibson Island facility, Visy ensures that these materials are repurposed into 100% recycled paper, reducing waste and promoting environmental stewardship. The new Brisbane factory will exclusively use recycled paper to manufacture corrugated boxes for local farmers and renowned food and beverage companies.
With plans to create thousands of “green collar” jobs, Visy’s expansion in Queensland signifies a significant economic boost for the region. The company’s vision aligns with governmental support for sustainable manufacturing practices, aiming to revolutionize Australia’s recycling and manufacturing sectors.
Visy’s initiatives extend beyond cardboard production, with plans to relocate its glass re-manufacturing operations to Yatala, further contributing to waste reduction efforts and greenhouse gas mitigation. The company’s focus on landfill reduction underscores its commitment to combating climate change and promoting a circular economy.
The new facility’s impact goes beyond local production, as it sets a precedent for eco-friendly manufacturing practices in the industry. By leveraging advanced technologies and sustainable processes, Visy is spearheading a shift towards a greener future for packaging and recycling.
As Visy continues to pioneer sustainable solutions and invest in environmentally responsible practices, the inauguration of Australia’s most advanced box-making factory represents a significant step towards a more sustainable and eco-conscious future in the packaging industry.
